Measure Distance Tool

Measuring linear distance by points.

The Measure Distance tool is a virtual tape measure. It allows you to validate and verify dimensions in the model against the actual construction. You can find the Measure Distance tool in the Measure Tools group from the Task-based Tools Menu.

Measuring Distance

The Measure Distance tool requires two points and these points need to be snapped to items in the view. Once the two points are defined, a line appears along with the distance and a number identifying the line. If you want to see the distances of each axis between the two points, enable the Display Axis option from the Tool Settings on the top edge. In addition to the on-screen display, more measurement information can be found in the Measurement tab of the Properties zone in the bottom right.

You can create additional segments by selecting another two points. The on-screen display shows the measurement of the last created segment but in the Properties zone, the measurement of the previous segments is available along with the cumulative distance of all segments.

Clear Measurement

To clear all the segments, select the Clear Measurement option in the Tool Settings on the top edge. Once you exit the tool by selecting another tool in the Task-based Tools Menu, all the segments are cleared.

Display Units

By default, the unit display stored in the i-model is used for the measuring tools. You can change the display units by going to Navigator Settings from the Backstage panel.
